Optical Mineralogy hornblende inclined extinction plagioclase

Hornblende and plagioclase in plane-polarized and cross-polarized light, showing inclined extinction in hornblende (extinct when cleavage planes are inclined with respect to the crosshairs) and twinning in plagioclase (light and dark bands). Hornblende shows green pleochroism. High relief grains are orthopyroxene.
