Good political advice

In the wake of the inexplicable Democratic capitulation to the Bush Administration's demands vis a vis the FISA legislation this past weekend, I was wondering for the umpteenth time just what the hell the congressional Democrats were thinking. They just handed the keys to the kingdom to the Attorney General with the least credibility of anyone in politics since the Nixon Administration. I was reminded of this clip from the West Wing (Season 3, Episode name is "Gone Quiet"). In all of the romance about Jack Bauer and how the Republican Presidential candidates seem to want him as their CTU operative of choice, I would like to bring this fictional character to the Democrats and say to them: "You know those Democratic Operatives who have been giving you electoral advice for the last twelve years? The Bob Shrums of the world? THEY COMPLETELY SUCK AT THEIR JOBS! STOP LISTENING TO THEM!" I hope somewhere there is a real life Bruno Gianelli who is waiting in the wings to whisper into the ears of a Dennis Kucinich or a Russ Feingold - or even of a Chuck Hagel or a Dick Durbin - "This is too far, fight back with everything you have or they will keep on stealing your lunch money, if only because you are making it too easy."
