Robert Mapplethorpe/Celebrity Portraits

Robert Mapplethorpe has been widely recognized as a giant in late 20th century photography. His stylistic depictions of celebrities, male nudes, and flowers had made him one of the most successful New York artists during the 1980s until his death from AIDS in 1989. This documentary was made a year before his death, and includes various interviews with him, and others close to him. One of his significant bodies of work are his portraits of well-known figures in the art & music. Laurie Anderson, Peter Gabriel, Leo Castelli, Louise Bourgeois, Andy Warhol, and many others became his subjects.
