Canada apologises to indigenous population - 10 Jun 08

For more than a century, tens of thousands of native Canadian children were forced to attend residential schools where they were made to adopt the customs of the country's white majority. But many say they suffered years of physical and sexual abuse. Now the government is set to formally apologise and pay hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation to victims.
