Long John Baldry Band, featuring Kathi McDonald
April 1993, the Fabrik club, Hamburg Germany, Audio from a live NDR radio broadcast, synced up to John Lee Sanders personal video footage from the tour, filmed from the stage, playing keys with one hand and filming the band with the other. This concert was released by Stony Plain as "Onstage Tonight" one of Baldry's most popular cds. the Band was unaware until the day of the gig that there was to be a live broadcast, so we just did our usual amazing live set. That's Papa John King on the guitar solo.
Eric Webster, hammond organ
Butch Coulter, Harp & acoustic guitar
Al Webster, drums
Tom Knowles, bass
and John Lee on keyboards, sax and vocals, I'm not in any of the shots because I'm filming.
Long John is sadly no longer with us.
He passed away from a lung infection in July 2005, and this tour was the happiest time touring with him.
this was my first time in Europe as a touring musician, the best audiences in the world. I grew up in Louisiana and the Mississippi Delta, and have found
more acceptance and respect for our music than in the places where this music was born.
This was the band's first tour in Europe, We had just played East and West Berlin, where the wall had just fell a few years earlier, and there was still great excitement.
This club where we played was close to the red light district of Hamburg where the Beatles first gained notoriety, in the Star club where we played a year later.
