Employees at airport screened superficially

Officials with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration say a variety of security measures ensure airport workers are properly screened for explosives or weapons, even though most do not have to walk through metal detectors or put their bags through X-ray machines like passengers. But a Newark Liberty International Airport worker provided The Star-Ledger with the following cell-phone video of a special employee checkpoint in Terminal C, where private guards appear to barely glance inside the employees' bags as they enter the secure areas of the airport. The employees can be seen first swiping their access cards and entering a personal identification number before opening their bags for inspection. They then walk up steps to a door to the airport's secure areas.
