Coyote attacks cat on camera in East Naples

Coyote attacks cat on camera in East Naples Monday. July 28, 2008. Florida wildlife officers went door-to-door in an East Naples neighborhood Monday to try to calm worries about a weekend coyote attack on a pet cat. Surveillance cameras set up to catch vandals caught the coyote chasing Riverwood Estates resident Carol Dinwiddie's cat Caesar up a tree in her yard. The coyote partially climbed up the tree and then the cat fell out of the tree early Sunday. "And then he got my cat, " she said. Coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks since March against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties, but the attack in the neighborhood east of Collier Boulevard and south of U.S. 41 East is the first report so far south of the original attacks. Neighbors said Monday they are worried about the safety of their own pets, but the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is holding fast to its policy of not trapping nuisance coyotes.
