20/20 Special on Rick Baker Dick Smith and Special Effects Make-Up and the Academy Awards

Just prior to the 54th Academy Awards (March 29th, 1982) 20/20 ABC's Newsmagazine aired this special about make-up artists. It was at this time when the make-up category was first introduced into the Academy as a permanent award. Earlier recipients William Tuttle (7 Faces of Dr. Lao-1965) and John Chambers (Planet of the Apes-1968) both won Academy Awards but these were honorary awards for their special achievments in make-up. - -William Forsche
