Taxi to Azougui

Second trip to Azougui. This time in a bush-cab, or a "taxi brousse" as it is called here due to the French neo-colonial domination. The small village Azougui is worth. Besides the village itself and its palm-tree gardens, there are the ruins of the ancient city of Azougui which up on its time was the old capital of the Almoravids. Today it is on UNESCO:s list of World Heritage. It was from this small village that the Almoravids set off to conqueror north west Africa and later on the south of Spain - al-Andaluz. The village was also the main town in this region until the French came and decided to set up Atar instead as main post. Up on the plateau Atar was considered easier to defend against the Mauritanians who did not quite like the idea of being colonized. See what you can learn on a short taxi trip in the Sahara...
