Hij schilderde vooral landschappen, maar daarnaast ook pastorale-genrestukken. Zijn bekendste leerlingen zijn: Jan van Bijlert; Hendrick Bloemaert; Ferdinand Bol; Andries Both; Jan Both; Hendrick ter Brugghen; Jacob Cuyp; Wybrand de Geest; Gerard van Honthorst; Willem van Honthorst; Nicolaus Knüpfer; Cornelis van Poelenburgh en Jan Baptist Weenix Abraham Bloemaert exelled more as a colourist than as a draftsman, was extremely productive, and painted and etched historical and allegorical pictures, landscapes, still-life, animal pictures and flower pieces.
