The ministers, who are in Hanoi, Vietnam for the Asia-Europe Meeting, held emergency sessions on Tuesday to discuss the underground explosion. Their statement describes the test as a clear violation of six-party agreements and UN Security Council resolutions, at a time when the world needs to maintain a framework for nuclear nonproliferation. It strongly urges North Korea not to conduct further tests, and to comply with UN resolutions. The foreign ministers also called on North Korea to immediately return to the six-party talks, so that a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula could be achieved by peaceful means. 26/May/2009 07:05
