Sandbag Removal Report #120 Valley City ND

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) -- Valley City's sandbag removal from this spring's flood protection is continuing. Valley City Mayor Mary Lee Nielson says the sanbag removal will continue over the next three weeks. Earthern levee removal is ocurring, however, the Mayor says, it's hoped that officials will allow clay levees in six areas of town to remain, at least temporarily for any future flood control needs. Mayor Nielson reminds residents that the Impact Foundation is still accepting contributions to be used for Valley City, Barnes County residents needing additional assistance. Local funds will be matched up to $20,000 by Dakota Medical Foundation. She says a possible use for the dollars could be a grant to help property owners with landcaping needed, following dike and levee removal. Contributions can be dropped off at City Hall, or the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce. Mayor Nielson adds, officials with FEMA are scheduled to walk the streets with city officials to determine FEMA funding for street repairs of damages caused by flood protection, such as levees, or heavy truck traffic. Mayor Nielson adds, the sanitary sewer replacement project will have contrator bids awarded at the next City Commission meeting with work to start in late July or early August.
