Sublimating the Polarities

This series of images concerns the transformations of self and world through the conversion polarities into each other and eventually sublimation of polarity altogether into a new unity. This video is a visual interpretation of this piece of music by Henri Constant Gabriel Pierné (1863-1937), another French composer and organist. In listening to his piece I always "hear" at least two things: Power and Progress. Without sufficient power, nothing can progress. Yet, without the correct pattern, power will not lead to progress, it will not organize into a system. The idea of the "correct pattern" emerges for me as the notion of evolution, and this reminds me, on a personal level, of spiritual alchemy. The alchemists were always working in secret on their internal, spiritual transformations as they sought immortality. Secondarily, they worked on their physical chemistry as a form of analogy. To have a physical activity through which to sublimate the spiritual was always the idea. Even sexual interaction with the opposite sex became a stage for evolution. All relationships became stages for evolution, transformative change leading to progress and a stepping up of power enabling yet further evolution. This is just one of countless interpretations available for this music, of course. It is my preferred one, and this is not the only format of images I can associate with it to reach a similar expression of its idea into a visual format. In spite of all the lightning, it is perhaps one of the less shocking series of images for others to view.
