Westphalia Waltz (Olde Tyme Fiddle tune made famous by Cotton Collins c1946)

This is actually a very old French tune from nearly 300 years ago that made its way to Germany and then during WW2 a fellow by the name of Cotton Collins a fiddler from the U.S., who was with Hank Thompson and the Lone Star Playboys, took this tune back home with him in his head and refined this old waltz and gave it new life in the 1940s while at a dance in Wesphalia, Texas. According to an awesome write-up by Clay Coppedge on the website http://www.texasescapes.com/ClayCoppedge/Westphalia-Waltz.htm Coppedge tells that ...After a dance at Westphalia Hall in 1946, the band met with hall manager B.J. Lignau to divvy up the evening's proceeds. Collins mentioned the crowd sure like his 'No Name Waltz.' Lignau said that since the song had no name, he might as well call it 'Westphalia Waltz.' So thats what he did and it became a number one hit released on Bluebonnet Records. Here I managed to chord along on the guitar and play second fiddle too...tricky...lol, but cool after a million trys!!
