The global economic crisis is now a cheese crisis,too. In the Emmental region of west central Switzerland cheese producers are only working at 80 percent of capacity. Swiss-made Emmenthal isn't selling well,mainly due to cheap imports from Germany. But Switzerland's cheesemakers prefer to keep producing a quality product. They'd rather reduce output than slice the price of their cheese.
