Walter Mosley in Edina Minnesota.1
Last month I received a finished copy of THE LONG FALL: The First Leonid McGill Mystery by Walter Mosley, which Riverhead Books published on March 24, 2009. Mosley embarked on a national book tour which will bring him to Minneapolis yesterday, April 8th for an event at Barnes & Noble/Edina, where I interviewed him prior to his presentation and reading.
Riverhead Books publicists had this to say about Mosley's new direction:
Walter Mosley, whom Time has praised as a writer whose work transcends category and qualifies as serious literature, is one of Americas most celebrated, important, and best-known writers. He has been described as a cunning storyteller concerned with the more profound mysteries of American lives (Boston Globe), a fearless boundary pusher (San Diego Union Tribune), and a national treasure (Washington Post) whose unflinching admissions about race relations will startle some readers and satisfy many more (O: The Oprah Magazine). As one reviewer of a Mosley mystery put it, Nobody, but nobody, writes this stuff like Mosley (The New York Times Book Review). Published now for the first time by Riverhead Books, hes back to debut a brand-new mystery series with THE LONG FALL: The First Leonid McGill Mystery.
While still addressing issues of race in America, Mosley has moved from mid-20th century in Los Angeles to contemporary New York City, imbuing his writing with a new edge and urgency. Its a new character, a new city, a new era, a new publisher. A new Walter Mosley
