Obersalzberg-Berchtesgaden * Germany 2007 * 'Uranus'/Holst* Karajan/VPO

Still photo-slide show of our visit to Obersalzberg-Berchtesgaden, where Hitler's Berghof (mountain home) was located. It has spectacular views of the Untersberg mountain. The Berghof itself has since been bombed and demolished over the decades, and today only ruins remain. The Hotel zum Türken is just a very short walk away from the site of the Berghof, and has a rustic feel to the place. The present proprietor/manager is a descendant of the man who built the Hotel in 1911. Today there's also a swanky Intercontinental Hotel located further down the road beyond the Türken for regular tourists. MUSIC: 'Uranus, the Magician' Gustav Holst, 'The Planets' Herbert von Karajan, conductor Wiener Philharmoniker Decca Records
