MoviTHERM - "Composite Check" Thermal NDT System

MoviTHERM - Advanced Thermography Solutions "Composite Check" is a state-of-the-art non destructive testing system for composite materials. It is based on Lockin-Thermography and uses thermal cameras to detect defects in composite materials. An excitation source (heat source) is used to warm up the material (e.g. halogen lamp). Defects such as delaminations, disbands, voids, cracks and foreign material inclusions will heat up and cool down at a different rate compared to the material surrounding them. This difference in the rate of change in temperature causes a phase shift in temperature and is displayed as defect or difference in contrast in the resulting thermal image. This method allows defects to be found that are 1/4" to 1/2" below the surface. It also reveals the structural composition of the materials, e.g. the fiber layup and orientation of e.g. carbon fibers.
