Neo-Latin Peoples:The Rhaeto-Romans
PART OF THE SERIES ON THE NEO-LATIN PEOPLES
The neo-latin peoples are descendants of the European populations latinized during the Roman Empire.Their languages, part of the Romance branch of the Indo-European language family and as such, share many similarities. This series is devoted to them, attempting to show:
a)Folklore, traditions and culture
b) Faces of ordinary people of today, human landscapes
c) Famous people of that ethnicity, in different fields.
All racist or otherwise hostile and derogatory comments will be promptly deleted, as will any history and politics-related polemics. The purpose of this video is to show people and their culture(s), their beauty and inherent dignity.
NB All images in these videos are in the public domain or used with permission.
RHAETO-ROMANS
The Rhaeto-Romans are descendants of the people inhabiting the Roman provinces of Rhaetia and Noricum.
There are 3 main groups of Rhaeto-Romans, speaking languages that clearly share the same stem, yet are not identical.
The Romantsch people, who live in the Canton of Grischün/Grisons/Graubünden in Switzerland. Romantsch is the 4-th national language of Switzerland.
The Ladin people, who live in the Dolomitic Mountains, in the Province of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol (Italy)
The Friulan people, who live in the Northeastern corner of Italy, bordering Slovenia.
Along with the Romanians, the Romantsch and the Ladins are the only Neo-latin people whose ethnonym reflects their Roman origins.
I havent found many public domain pictures of Romantsch people, so from 00:10 I included emblems of the counties forming the Canton of Grischün. Ladin people are shown from 00:50, Friulan people from 01:45.
