Taipei Story (Edward Yang, 1985) Part 1/11 - English Subtitles

The film that introduced Yangs prodigious talent to the West is a quietly stunning drama which sees the various problems facing a rapidly modernised city reflected in the lives of a dozen or so subtly observed characters. At the centre are a troubled upper middle-class couple: a failed businessman lost in dreams of the past (Hou Hsiao-Hsien), and a budding executive whose reaction to redundancy is more in tune with the future.
