Edith Norton (De De) Lord became Alice Saturday night, June 20, for the Wonderland debut dance given in her honor by her stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Tobey Hansen, at their Cloverly road home. De De, who is also the daughter of the late John Norton Lord, designed her white organdy Alice pinafore with hem embroidery of bright silk flowers over a long white organdy jumpsuit. Her parents were King and Queen of hearts, with royal crowns. Mrs. Hansen wore a formal gown of flowered silk, her baleau necklace detailed with petal scallops of matching material. Wonderland was the Hansens garden, with scenes and characters from the Lewis Carroll classic, executed by Mrs. Henry Petri and Odley Grossman, creator of the Detroit Institute of Arts beautiful puppet sets, everywhere and floating hearts, diamonds and clubs dotting the surface of the pool. Dancing was under a large white tent, to the strains of SRC, and the midnight breakfast menu featured eggs, bacon and lasagna.
