Beethoven piano sonata f minor op. 2/1, 4th movement: Prestissimo -- Rebecca Maurer

Ludwig van Beethoven's piano sonata f minor op. 2/1 performed by Rebecca Maurer on a fortepiano (Hammerflügel) by Johann Heinrich Ernst Fessel (Dresden, c. 1800, restorated by Markus Fischinger 2002/03). Fessel "was trained and employed in the workshop of Johann Gottlob Horn in Dresden, who himself was a pupil of Andreas Stein. ... When compared to four surviving fortepianos from the workshop of the Gräbner brothers, , built between 1791 and 1794, Fessel's instrument suggests a more modern and innovative approach to instrument design, as indicated by the robust interior construction and the use of brass Kapsels. The resulting unique combination of a "Stein-like" transparency of tone and the trendsetting, full-bodied sonority make the instrument especially appropriate for the interpretation of both late Mozart works and early works by Beethoven." (Rebecca Maurer, transl. Bryan J. Wolf) Recorded autumn 2004 at Deutschlandradio, Funkhaus Berlin, Studio 10. 96 kHz 24 bit High Definition A/D converter
