Cherry Poppin' Daddies - 'Zoot Suit Riot' (original video)

This is the original music video to the single 'Zoot Suit Riot' by America's finest rock/swing/ska band, the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. Directed by Isaac Camner and filmed at the Cafe du Nord in San Francisco. Backstory: This video was filmed to promote the original independent release of the band's all-swing compilation album 'Zoot Suit Riot' on Space Age Bachelor Pad Records in 1997 (up to that point, CPD had already released three successful indie albums of rock, funk, ska and swing). Following said release, the band was almost immediately picked up by major label subsidiary Mojo Records, 'Zoot' was re-distributed nationally and, to appease the masses who felt the original video wasn't weird *enough*, a newer one was filmed by pornographer Gregory Dark in 1998, which can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnCkFjjddLk Many (read: approx. four people) debate over which is the superior video. I believe most people, the band included, prefer the original version, with its creepy "swing" atmosphere and Steve's endearing over-the-top expressions, but I've always been partial to the second, more popular one which carried a more surrealist "Daddies atmosphere": evil clowns, goat sacrifice, foot fetishism, occult imagery...just try finding THAT with squeaky-clean revisionist cheeseballs like Brian Setzer and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. It really set them apart from the other swing revival bands (as it rightfully should have, seeing as the Daddies were never a "swing band" to begin with. Do your homework, kids. In fact, do it here: http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry_Poppin_Daddies ) And, of course, here, where you can also buy all sorts of cool CPD shit: http://www.daddies.com/
