Suspense Sequence 005 - The Day of the Jackal (1973)

*SPOILER WARNING* THE DAY OF THE JACKAL (1973) - The quintessential political thriller directed by Oscar-winning director Fred Zinnemann (FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS). Based upon the book by Frederick Forsyth, the screenplay was adapted by Kenneth Ross. It is a meticulously constructed work, following two separate story lines - one focused upon The Jackal (Edward Fox), who is attempting to assassinate the French president, and the other focused upon Lebel (Michael Lonsdale), the police inspector trying to stop the assassination. Each character is like an unstoppable force, each on conflicting missions that takes them on a disastrous collision course towards one another. In this scene, the climax, the two figures - The Jackal and Lebel - finally cross paths with one another...
