Spolia in Seljuk Ankara

Ankara, the present capital of Turkey used to be Ancyra for the Romans, Angkyra for the Greeks before them and probably something similar for the Phrygians before them. In this video we see one of the oldest mosques in the city - a Seljuk structure from the late 13th century built in the wooden column style re-using old Hellenistic and Roman column capitals. We also walk around the turbe of the founder and discover, with the help of some local kids, some old inscribed blocks of stone which have been re-used as building material. Jethro Tull join us on this journey.
