The Spanish-American war took place from April 25 to August 12, 1898. Spain and the United States fought over Cuba, and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean theater, as well as combat over The Philippine Islands, and Guam in the Asia-Pacific theater. The four month conflict finally ended in the Treaty of Paris with Spain relinquishing sovereignty over Cuba and ceding the Philippine Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam to the United States for the sum of $20 million.
