Annoying Black Snake in Patio

So my daughter went and I went to feed the cat in the patio and suddenly she drops all the food and screams "SNAKE!!!" and runs inside. I look and yep, big black snake in our screened in patio. My husband grabs our older almost blind cat to bring her indoors and opens the patio door, but the snake does not want to leave. Unlike most snakes I see outside that sliders side ways, this one went forwards. What kind is it? Racer or Rat? Danger to my cat? How do I keep the snake and lizards out? JUST ANNOYING!!!!!
