WIMP Abbr. for weakly interacting massive particle, a hypothetical particle of non-baryonic dark matter. In some theories, WIMPs are assumed to pervade the cosmos. Examples could be cold dark matter, such as axions or photinos, or hot dark matter, such as neutrinos. See also MACHO.
