urban social movements
urban social movements Organizations formed by residents to protest about, or make demands for changes in, the urban environment and urban services. The term was originally applied narrowly by Manuel Castells to those urban movements which contributed to wider revolutionary social change. See also SOCIAL MOVEMENTS.
