unicentric distribution
unicentric distribution The occurrence of endemic species (see endemism) in very local areas. In Scandinavia, for example, about 40 endemics are found in just one or two areas; these areas are thought by some authorities to have been refuges from the glaciation of the late Pleistocene (i.e. they were nunataks above the ice sheets). Compare bicentric distribution.
