tri·ple jump • n. 1. (the triple jump) a track-and-field event in which competitors attempt to jump as far as possible by performing a hop, a step, and a jump from a running start. 2. triple jump In athletics, similar to the long jump with the exception that, from the take-off line, a contestant takes two extended leaps on alternate legs to launch into the final jump.
