tramontana
tramontana, the cold northerly wind of the Mediterranean, particularly around the western coast of Italy and northern Corsica, but also in the Balearic Islands and the Ebro Valley in Catalonia. It is the same wind that in other localities is the called the bora, and on the Côte d'Azur and in eastern Provence it is sometimes known as the montagnère or montagneuse.
