thermokarst
thermokarst A periglacial landscape that is characterized by enclosed depressions (some with standing water) and so resembles a karst landscape. It is caused by the selective thaw of ground ice associated with thermal erosion by stream and lake water and may reflect the influences of climatic changes or human activity upon permafrost.
