taro

ta·ro / ˈtarō; ˈterō/ • n. a tropical Asian plant (Colocasia esculenta var. esculenta) of the arum family that has edible starchy corms and edible fleshy leaves, esp. a variety with a large central corm grown as a staple in the Pacific. Also called dasheen. Compare with eddo. ∎  the corm of this plant.
