skiff

skiff

skiff, in maritime terms a ship's working boat during the days of sail. It was usually a small clinker-built boat pulling one or two pairs of oars, used for small errands around a ship when it was in harbour. They should not be confused with the light pleasure craft used on rivers and inland waters.
