shares

shares Documents representing money invested in a company in return for membership rights in the ownership of that company. Shares are expressed in monetary units. Shareholders regularly receive payment of dividends that depend on the net profit of the company. In the UK, although the definitions have become blurred, stocks usually mean fixed-interest securities such as those issued by government.
