1. A series of programming statements which can be executed usually within a WEB SERVER. The term is really synonymous with ‘program’ but is normally restricted to code written in INTERPRETED PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES such as PERL rather than COMPILED PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES such as JAVA.

2. The rules that are used by FILTERS to reject content sent to a user of the Internet, such as a filter which rejects SPAM email.

1. (command file) A file containing commands or other actions that could have been entered from the keyboard. This is a useful way of replaying often-used sequences of actions. In fact the scripting languages usually have extra commands (not available for direct use) such as branches, loops, and procedure calls. There are also usually optional parameters that allow the script to be made more general.
