screens
screens. Partitions of wood, stone, or metal, often with painted or sculptural decoration, dividing a church into two or more parts. Chancel- or choir-screens, separating the choir from the nave, may be high or quite low; when surmounted by a cross (‘rood’), they are termed ‘rood-screens’. See also ICONOSTASIS.
