scirocco

scirocco(sirocco) A regional name for one of the types of warm winds from the south which occur around the Mediterranean. It moves ahead of an eastward-travelling depression and brings hot, dry, dusty conditions to Algeria and the Levant. To the north, where its humidity increases very rapidly as it crosses the sea, it brings moist air to the coast of Europe.
