rise time
rise time The time taken for a variable star to rise from minimum to maximum. In an eclipsing binary it is the time either from mid-eclipse or (for total eclipses) from third contact to maximum brightness. In novae and supernovae, it is usually taken to be the time to any pre-maximum halt, rather than to the extreme maximum.
