resistance movement
resistance movement Underground organizations that worked against German rule in occupied countries of Europe during World War II. In some countries, such as Poland and Yugoslavia, they were strong enough to mount armed resistance. Elsewhere, as in France, the Low Countries and Scandinavia, their role was confined to sabotage and intelligence.
