Regency crisis
Regency crisis, 1788–9. In October 1788 George III appeared to have gone mad. It was expected that the prince of Wales would become regent, dismiss Pitt, and call on Portland and Fox to form a ministry. Although a regency bill was prepared, it was not enacted because of the unexpected recovery of the king in February 1789.
