raindrop A water droplet, formed by condensation of water vapour in a cloud, that is heavy enough to fall from the cloud and large enough to reach the surface of land or sea before evaporating in the unsaturated air beneath the cloud. Droplets reaching the surface range in diameter from about 100 μm in fog to 0.2 mm in drizzle and 5.0 mm in a heavy shower.
