ra·dix / ˈrādiks; ˈrad-/ • n. (pl. ra·di·ces / ˈradəˌsēz; ˈrā-/ ) 1. Math. the base of a system of numeration. See also base1 (sense 8). 2. formal a source or origin of something: Judaism is the radix of Christianity.

radix

radix (base) The number of distinct digits in a fixed-radix number system. These digits represent the integers in the range zero to one less than the radix. The radix of a number can be indicated by means of a subscript, as in 248 or 1012. See also binary system, hexadecimal notation, octal notation.
