pixel
pixel Abbreviation for picture element. A pixel is a single point on a visual display device such as a monitor. Graphics devices display pictures which can consist of thousands of pixels arranged in rows and columns. A variety of colours are displayed using pixels. For example, in 8-bit colour mode, a colour monitor uses 8 bits for each pixel, with each integer that can be formed from 8 bits being assigned a colour; this means that 256 colours can be displayed.
