performance monitoring The process of checking the performance of a network in terms of the response time that a user of that network achieves. There are a number of performance tools available which simulate a typical mix of activities and monitor the response time of the network to these activities.

performance monitoring Measurement, by direct observation or by programmed processes, of activity at various points in a computer system to find out where bottlenecks and delays are taking place. Results are used for system reconfiguration in order to improve overall performance.
