pasticcio
pasticcio (It.). Pie, pasty.
1. A dramatic entertainment with songs, ensembles, dances, and other items assembled from the works of several composers, thus giving the audience a medley of their favourite tunes. Popular in 18th cent., e.g. Thomyris (1707). 2. An opera in which each act is by a different composer, e.g. Muzio Scevola (1721) by Amadei, Bononcini, and Handel. 3. Instr. comp. containing different sections or items by different composers, e.g. Diabelli's Väterlandischer Künstlerverein (1823–4), containing variations by 50 composers; the Hexaméron (1837), and L'Éventail de Jeanne (1927). |
