partisans
partisans Members of organized, quasi-military resistance movements, who are not members of regular military units, but freely participate in violent campaigns against regular military units. The term is most frequently used to describe the Communist resistance movement under Tito in Yugoslavia, though partisans were active throughout the Balkans. Partisan warfare was particularly suitable for this part of Europe on account of the rugged terrain, which posed great difficulties for the occupying Hungarian, German, and Italian armies.
