Biol. of, relating to, attached to, or denoting the wall of the body or of a body cavity or hollow structure. ∎ of the parietal lobe: the parietal cortex. 2. relating to residence in a college or university dormitory and esp. to visits from members of the opposite sex: parietal rules. 3. Archaeol. denoting prehistoric art found on rock walls. • n. 1. Anat. & Zool. a parietal structure. ∎ short for parietal bone. 2. parietal (pă-ry-ĕ-t'l) adj. of or relating to the inner walls of a body cavity, as opposed to the contents. p. bone either of a pair of bones forming the top and sides of the cranium. See skull. p. cells see oxyntic cells. p. lobe one of the major divisions of each cerebral hemisphere (see cerebrum), lying beneath the crown of the skull. It contains the sensory cortex and association areas. p. pleura see pleura.
