near-shore current system
near-shore current system A system of currents that is caused by wave activity within and adjacent to the breaker zone. The current system includes: the shoreward mass transport of water; longshore currents; and seaward-moving rip currents. This wave-induced current system often has a reversing tidal-current system superimposed on it.
